MY 5 TOP FITNESS TIPS TO KEEP YOU ON TRACK WITH YOUR WORKOUTS DURING THE WINTER
In my 35 years as a PT and Fitness Coach, there is no doubt the change in the seasons brings a shift in mindset when it comes to fitness for a lot of my clients and class members.
The days are short, the weather can be pretty uninviting, and the lure of staying in bed is often just too great. When it’s dark by 4 pm, the temptation to put your workout on the back burner is all too great, and I know from speaking to clients that the struggle is real. This is why I like to change things up to help people get up and start moving.
There is no doubt that this is a natural time to slow down and rest, it’s part of nature’s cycle and it’s important to acknowledge that; but finding ways to keep moving regularly for both your mental and physical health will mean you don’t fall into a habit of ‘doing nothing’ until the following Spring.
Here are my 5 top tips to help motivate you to move daily, maintain consistency with your training , there’s no one size fits all, it all depends on your schedule and what makes you tick.
1. JOIN A CLASS//
Training in a group format can really re-energise and re-kindle your fitness mojo. Heading out and meeting people regularly to workout together is one of my top tips to regain your fitness mojo. So many of my class members tell me they love the company, get to make like minded friends and they would struggle to complete a session without physically showing up, especially in the Winter. If you’re able and your schedule allows, find something that ticks your boxes and pop it in your diary so it becomes a habit. 2. TRY ONLINE WORKOUTS//
There is a lot of ease in working out from home. It gives you more time, you can literally roll out of bed and pop on your kit and workout, job done. That decision of having to get into the car in the pouring rain or bitter cold has now gone, plus, you can also workout at a time to suit you. So if you really love a short punchy HIIT session at the gym but it’s only on a Monday at 9 am and you can’t make it, online offers the opportunity for you to pick it up when you’re ready. You just rock up, find your workout and go. This factor alone is what a lot of my online members love, no driving, no queuing, no booking. 3. TRY SOMETHING NEW – SET YOURSELF A CHALLENGE//
The idea of trying something completely different and new to spike that motivation, is a great tip for all year round, not just the Winter. Maybe you can find something indoors such as a regular badminton or padel game for variety, one of my regular PT clients has recently tried this and loved it. If you’re into more intense sessions how about Hyrox training and setting a challenge like working towards a competition ? If you don’t mind the cold you could even try open water swimming – a great way to meet people and try something very bracing. Make sure you go for a cold venue who do intro sessions for new people so you’re safe in the water.
4. ENROLL IN A GYM – TRY A PT SESSION//
I know gyms aren’t for everyone, but they can be a great driving factor in getting you out the house if you’re up for it and for staying on top of your strength & fitness. However, as this is all about top tips for staying motivated, many people find a session with a PT can really help define their goals, to start a more organised and considered way of training with great results. PTS offer a range of training methods with kit you might not have ever used before. This kind of variety in your training sparks the flame of motivation again. I consistently change my clients programs to keep them engaged and challenged, checkout my testimonials page for first hand reviews of how PT works and success stories π TESTIMONIALS

5. TO FINISH//
Always, always choose something you will enjoy, this is so important, that way you’ll be consistent, motivated and happy. If you struggle with seasonal adjustment and find is really really hard to deal with shorter, darker days just moving for 10 mins a day can make the world of difference to your mood. I really ope these tips help!
